Privateers hosting Timberwolves Sunday for opening day action

-

The Charlottetown Privateers will host the Cornwall Timberwolves Sunday in their first games of the season.

Three games are on the schedule for the day at the Longworth Avenue field.

Action begins at 11 a.m. with the under-12 squads.

It is a developmental game with each team playing offence for 10 plays and defence 10 plays per half. There are no special teams except the kicking option after a touchdown.

The goal is to focus on skill development rather than winning or losing. The Privateers and Timberwolves are expecting this to be a high-scoring game for both teams with the kids walking away learning a lot about the game.

Second on the schedule, at 1 p.m., is the bantam contest, which is six-a-side football.

The Privateers have a number of strong returning players with the addition of a lot of rookie players. As the returning champions, the Timberwolves are eager to hold on to top spot for a second season in a row. Both clubs are expecting a close, exciting game.

To wrap up the day, the varsity teams play at 3 p.m.

With a new coaching staff in Charlottetown, the Privateers are bringing a whole new playbook to the field, and they feel strong heading into their seasonopener.

The Timberwolves have a crop of strong rookies as well as a significant number of second- and third-year players ready to bring their best to the field.
