Tip Er Back, Dunsford join forces

John Wort Hannam will be performing at the Trailside Music Cafe & Inn in Mount Stewart tonight.

The singer-songwriter comes from a long line of people who make a living using their hands. His great-great grandfathe­r drove horse and buggy for the village doctor. His greatgrand­father was a stevedore, his grandfathe­r, a farmer and his father works as a master carpenter.

Hannam now carries on the tradition making his living writing songs and playing music. He independen­tly released his debut CD “pocket full of holes” in 2002 and “Dynamite and ’Dozers” in 2004. His third CD “Two-Bit Suit” was released by Black Hen Music in the spring of 2007. “Queen’s Hotel” is Wort Hannam’s fourth full-length recording.

At the Trailside, owner Pat Deighan is excited about his performanc­e.

“It’s John’s first time appearing at the Trailside,” he says.

“He’s been on our wish list of performers for a few years now. Just an incredible writer and player.”

When host Dino Dunsford shared the stage with Tip Er Back at the sounds of the Island show during Old Home Week, he knew he had to get the band to play the Winsloe Ceilidh.

That’s because the crowd was going wild with the music.

Tip Er Back will take the stage at Winsloe United Church Ceilidh on Monday, Sept. 24, starting at 7:30 p.m.

And Dino Dunsford is excited to be sharing the stage with these fine musicians.

The band consists of Allen Betts, Clive Currie and Wade Murray. They play a mix of Maritime favourites as well as traditiona­l, country and some original music.

Betts is also a songwriter who has penned many songs including “And I Owe My Life to You”, “Lazy as Rope” and “Good Old Maritimes”.

For many years Dunsford performed as a rock’n’roll singer but now sings many genres of music including country, Irish and gospel.

He has shared the stage with

Nationally renowned vocal coach Paul Grambo, who teaches and performs out of London, Ont., accompanie­d by composer and conductor Leo Marchildon, will present a concert of choral music today at 7 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church Members of Tip Er Back take a break from rehearsals for the Sept. 24 edition of the Winsloe United Church Ceilidh. Chubby Checker and John Allen Cameron and has sung the national anthems at many functions. The award-winning performer picked up the Music P.E.I. Contributi­on Award for 2018. He has released five albums and is known for the energy he puts into his performanc­e. in Cornwall.

Two P.E.I. choirs, St. Dunstan’s Basilica Choir and a workshop choir, will be joined by Cape Breton’s ambassador choir Coro Cantabile for a concert featuring Maritime Celtic, Canadian folk, spiritual, traditiona­l and pop music.

Grambo’s credits include eight seasons with the Grammy and Juno- nominated Elora Singers. He is music director for The Broadway Singers and assistant music director at St. James’ Westminste­r Anglican Church. He also works with the Canadian Celtic Choir, the Mississaug­a Children’s Choir, the Karen Schuessler Singers and Pride Men’s Chorus London.

Marchildon is music directoror­ganist for St. Dunstan’s Basilica, accompanis­t for the UPEI Choral Ensemble and conductor of the P.E.I. Pops Orchestra.

Coro Cantabile, under the direction of James MacNeil, was formed in 2005 and have performed to wide acclaim as far away as Cuba. It takes special pride in showcasing songwriter­s, arrangers and singers from its home island of Cape Breton.

The Church located at 121 Winsloe Rd., is wheel chair accessible and has plenty of parking. There will be a light lunch served. Admission is $10 at the door with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Vocal coach Paul Grambo, accompanie­d by composer and conductor Leo Marchildon, will present a concert of choral music on today, 7:30 p.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Cornwall.

Proceeds from the concert will support the community charities of the local Knights of Columbus Council, including Coats for Kids, Lennon Recovery House, Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Challenge, the October Walk to Defeat Depression and the Cornwall Christmas Basket Program.
