Visitor restrictions extended at PCH

-

Prince County Hospital in Summerside is extending visitor restrictions after more patients and staff experienced symptoms of gastro-intestinal illness.

Restrictions were initially put into effect on Monday, Sept. 24.

Effective immediately and until further notice, no visitors are being permitted on the hospital’s medical unit as well as the restorative/surgery unit due to 18 cases of the illness. Visitation may be allowed in exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the health-care team.

Health P.E.I. says staff members are working diligently to carry out heightened infection control practices.

Everyone coming to the hospital should clean their hands before and after entering a patient’s room or a department and upon entering and leaving the facility. Alcohol hand rinse stations are available throughout the hospital.

The situation will be reassessed Friday as more information becomes available and a further update will be provided at that time.

The P.E.I. Green party has announced new candidates for two Prince County districts.

Party members gathered at the Vanier Centre in Wellington on Monday.

Nick Arsenault was nominated for District 24: Evangeline – Miscouche, while Jason Charette took District 25: O’Leary – Inverness.

Arsenault, a teacher at l’École Évangéline, also works as a journalist for “La Voix acadienne” and is executive director of le Conseil scolaire-communautaire Évangéline.

He is currently in charge of sports for the upcoming Jeux de l’Acadie 50+, serves on the board of the Evangeline Recreation Commission and is an organizer for the Acadian Festival.

Arsenault lives in Wellington with his wife and two children, who he calls his inspiration for running.

Meanwhile, hailing from a small farm in Richmond, Charette divides his time between his rural mail route with Canada Post, spending time with his infant daughter and converting his homestead into a sustainable mixed-use farm.

Prior to starting his farm, Charette worked for over a decade in the telecommunications industry.

He said he looks forward to conversations with the people of O’Leary – Inverness about things that are needed to enable rural life on P.E.I. to continue to thrive in the coming years.

“I am delighted to welcome Jason and Nick as the latest Green Party nominees,” said Green Party leader Peter Bevan-Baker.

“They each bring youthful energy, the perspective of being new parents, and in Nick’s case, the perspective of the Acadian community from which he comes and to whom he is deeply devoted. Their unique perspectives add to the growing diversity of our family of candidates.”

To date, the Green Part has nominated candidates in 15 districts across the Island.
