A grand weekend of concerts, workshops
Plenty of musical fun during the ninth edition of the Grand Ruisseau Song Festival
The ninth edition of the Grand Ruisseau Song Festival kicks off today and runs until Sept. 30,
Featuring entertainment from a variety of performers
The opening concert of the festival will take place today at 7 p.m. with an evening of entertainment by students from École Évangéline who are going to Europe in March 2019.
Some performers include Julien Robichaud on piano, Emily McIsaac on piano and vocals, Les Paloudes (Tianna Gallant, Gilbert Arsenault, Dawson Arsenault) and Les Éloizes (Mia Bernard, Leah McIsaac, Jaden McInnis, Slaíne McGuire, Andraya Gallant). Admission is by donations, which will go toward the students’ upcoming trip. The canteen will be open, and there will be a 50/50.
On Saturday at 8 p.m., there will be a songwriters’ circle, featuring three singer/songwriters.
Participants will have the opportunity to hear from Gary Gallant and Albert Arsenault from the Évangéline region as well as Didier Turbide from the Magdalen Islands. Admission is $12
for adults and $10 for members of the Coopérative de développement culturel et patrimonial de Mont-Carmel. The admission cost also includes the dance with the group Deux gorgées (Allan Gallant, Marcel Caissie, Peter Arsenault and Pierre Poirier) for those 19 years and over. The dance will
take place at 9 p.m., right after the Songwriters’ Circle.
For the closing concert, taking place at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, many talented musicians are set to perform. The concert will feature the choir L’air du temps from the Magdalen Islands as well as local choir members under the
direction of Lucille Petitpas. A family group, including Marcella Richard, Patricia Richard, Léonie Richard, Julien Robichaud, Caroline Bernard and Rémi Arsenault, will perform during the second part of the show. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for members of the co-operative, $5 for students and free for preschoolers. During the evening, spectators will be able to buy 50/50 tickets and the canteen will be open.
Festival programming also includes free workshops open to the general public, such as choral workshops and songwriting and stage presence. The workshops will be presented in French at the Mont-Carmel Parish Hall. Those who wish to take part are asked to pre-register in order to prepare the necessary materials.
