A P.E.I. man who smashed his face against a police vehicle’s window and threatened several people was sentenced Thursday to 60 days in jail.

Thomas Joseph Gallant, 42, appeared before Justice James Gormley in P.E.I. Supreme Court where he pleaded guilty to uttering a threat, possessing a firearm without a licence and breaching an undertaking.

The court heard that on June 1 the RCMP responded to a 911 call about a man covered in blood on the side of the road in Oyster Bed Bridge.

When the police found the man, he told them he had been in an altercation with Gallant.

The RCMP later seized two shotguns from Gallant’s home, including one hidden in the ceiling.

Gallant didn’t have a licence to possess the guns.

In a separate incident on July 28, Gallant started yelling at people who were having a family gathering in Oyster Bed Bridge.

One of the homeowners called 911.

The court heard Gallant appeared intoxicated and was on an undertaking at the time.

After his arrest, Gallant was belligerent and smashed his face against a police vehicle window.

He yelled vague threats and said there would be a “big surprise” when he got out of jail.

When an officer asked who Gallant was referring to, Gallant responded that he didn’t want to spoil the surprise.

Before Gormley sentenced Gallant, Crown attorney Joel Wonnacott read from a victim impact statement that said the homeowner’s feeling of security on his property changed since the incident.

The man said he fears for himself and his family over a possible future incident with Gallant.

In sentencing Gallant, Gormley followed a joint recommendation from the defence and Crown.

Gormley gave Gallant a suspended sentence for the weapons offence and 30 days in jail on each of the other charges.

After credit for time spent in custody, Gallant had nothing left to serve.

He will be on probation for one year and under a weapons prohibition for 10 years.
