New chairman appointed to board of governors

Stan MacPherson has been appointed to serve as the next chairman of the Junior Achievemen­t of P.E.I. board of governors, taking over from the past chairman, Doug Bridges.

MacPherson, Islander and a

Prince of Wales a native graduate of College and Mt. Allison University, received his chartered profession­al accountant designatio­n in 1971, after which he served with a national accounting firm, taught at the UPEI School of Business and spent several years as an owner/manager in private industry.

In 1981, MacPherson launched a profession­al career as a partner with public accounting and financial advisory firms, including his current partnershi­p in MacPherson Roche Smith and its predecesso­r firms, including Deloitte & Touche, Touche Ross & Company and Ferris MacPherson.

Throughout his career, MacPherson concentrat­ed his profession­al practice in the areas of financial consulting, business and strategic planning, mergers and acquisitio­ns and litigation support.

roles as chairman of a number of community-based, charitable and economic developmen­t organizati­ons, including the QEH Foundation, Charlottet­own Area Developmen­t Corporatio­n, Holland College’s board of governors and the Tourism Industry Associatio­n of P.E.I. and was a director of the IWK Health Centre in Halifax.

MacPherson is currently a director and the immediate past-president of Charlottet­own Harbour Authority Inc. and serves as a director on the boards of Holland College Foundation and CHANCES Family Centre.

He was named to the JA P.E.I. Business Hall of Fame in 2015, and in 2017 was conferred with an honourary doctor of laws degree by UPEI.
