A Clyde River man who stole three tires and a car battery was sentenced recently to 105 days in jail on several charges.

Cameron Geoffrey Dobson, 27, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown for sentencing after pleading guilty to two counts of theft and two counts of breaching his probation.

The court heard that on Aug. 4 the RCMP responded to a complaint about someone stealing tires off a vehicle in Cornwall.

A witness reported seeing Dobson at the scene.

When the RCMP went to Dobson’s home they saw he was changing a tire on his vehicle. It was one of the tires he stole. The RCMP also found a car battery and two other tires that were all stolen.

Dobson admitted to the thefts, saying he planned to use one of the tires and strip the other two so he could sell the rims off them.

He was on probation at the time and the court heard he failed to report to his probation officer as required.

The court heard Dobson had more than $16,000 in fines and other charges outstanding.

Defence lawyer Yolande Murphy said Dobson wants to get help and get his addiction under control.

After credit for time served, Dobson was left with 36 days on his sentence.

He must also pay $50 in restitution.
