Hard to keep up with all the Kanye West headlines from the last week

- Keely Turner Keelywood

My favourite hobbies are scrolling through memes on Instagram, eating sour jujubes, asking my dog “who’s a good boy?” and defending Kanye West.

It’s just what I do.

But lately I’ve been having a really hard time defending Kanye West and the latest headlines should explain my predicament.

Oct. 3: Kim Kardashian Just Revealed That Kanye Paid Her A Million Dollars for Not Posting an Ad on Instagram - BuzzFeed

A fashion brand offered Kim one million dollars to post one photo. Kim turned it down because the company would sometimes knock off Yeezy products, and Kanye thanked her for her support by paying her $1 million and giving her a percentage of ownership in the Yeezy brand. Seems fair, right? I mean I can totally relate because after we moved apartments the other day, Jonathan bought me ice cream as a reward. So SAME! I totally get it. Oct. 3 Kanye West Celebrates His Father Beating Cancer by Eating Bugs in Detroit (as one does) - USA Today Kanye put up a photo of a plate of bugs straight out of the deepest dive into the Planet Earth DVDs and captioned it “My dad and I are going to eat this plate of bugs to celebrate him beating cancer. No more fear”. I mean, I would have gone with a classic champagne toast, but bugs are cool, too.

Oct. 2: Kanye West Explains His 13th Amendment Comments - CNN

First, Kanye went on a rant in support of Donald Trump on the “Saturday Night Live” stage, and then he tweeted that the 13th amendment should be abolished. For those of you not well versed in the amendments, the 13th amendment abolished slavery in the U.S. So, it seemed like Kanye wanted to bring slavery back. He later did an interview with TMZ where he clarified that he didn’t think slavery ever truly ended and that he didn’t want to abolish the amendment, he just wanted to change it. Still hard to follow, even harder to support, and he did it all while wearing a Make America Great Again hat. *Palm to Forehead*

Oct. 1: Kanye West Reveals New Release Date for ‘Yandhi’, with Help from Kim Kardashian - NME Kim announced on Twitter that Kanye would be releasing his new album, ‘Yandhi’, on Black Friday. First, Kanye nicknamed himself Yeezy as a play on Jesus, and now he has nicknamed himself Yandhi as a play on Gandhi. I think you know what I’m getting at here – Kanye obviously has a self-esteem problem and we need to work together to build him back up.

Let’s summarize; Kanye is a YUGE Donald Trump supporter (hopefully you get that Donald Trump ‘huge’ reference and don’t just think this typo slid passed me).

Kanye and Kim can write and cash cheques for $1 million and yet when I hand the cashier a $50 bill they hold it into the light like I just printed it off my HP Office Jet Pro.

And lastly, Kanye thinks he is a gift to all of us, but if I may speak for 9/10 of us? We just want the sneakers and the music, Kanye. That’s it. Take the tweets and the rants and the uninformed thoughts and channel it into something I can dance to when I’m 3 vodka waters deep.
