Fall shows at Kings Playhouse
Georgetown venue announces three concerts: this evening, as well as Oct. 12, 19
After a busy summer with soldout shows, haunted walks and lots of visitors to our new art gallery, the Kings Playhouse is not slowing down as it is planning a flash-back fall with three special tribute shows for the whole family to enjoy in the month of October.
Jonah Anderson and The Blue Suede Band will be presenting An Evening With Elvis today. All the favourite hits will be included in this special tribute show. Band members include Robert Graham, Bobby McIsaac, Adam MacGregor, and Alicia and Shawn Arsenault. The opening act will be Nolan Compton.
On Oct. 12, a special Country Legends Tribute Tour is coming to the stage. Gordon Cormier and Dave Pike will be covering legendary artists including George Jones, Conway Twitty, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and Charlie Pride. Pike, formerly of the successful group known as Dave & Aubrey, has had many years performing on Marine Atlantic and venues across Canada resulted in his music being played all over the world. Cormier formerly of the award- winning family group The Cormiers has been entertaining audiences across North America for 36 years.
While performing with the family group, they recorded four CDs mostly original songs and tunes and picked up six Music NL awards with two of them being SOCAN Song of the Year Awards. They were also nominated for an ECMA for folk roots traditional group of the year. They have been working together for a few years now and focus mostly on classic country music but not to leave out the Newfoundland traditional songs, jigs and reels that they grew up on.
Another country legend will be highlighted on Oct. 19 with a special tribute show. Ryan Cook as Hank Williams has been playing to sold-out houses across the Maritimes and the playhouse is excited to host him and his band. Along with bandmates the Drifting Cowboys, this two-act feature performance includes 22 songs from the man hailed by many as the greatest country music singer and songwriter of all time.
Cook and company re-animate the sounds of Don Helms’ haunting steel guitar, Jerry Rivers’ fiddle arrangements and the yodeling of the lovesick boy from Georgiana, Luke the Drifter himself: Hank Williams.
All shows get underway at 7:30 p.m. For more information on the shows, including ticket prices, visit www.kingsplayhouse.com.
