Regals post backto-back victories

ALBERTON – The Western Regals posted back-to-back victories to open the 2018-19 P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League regular season over the weekend.

The Regals, who limited their opposition to just three goals in two games, defeated the Robin’s Mid-Isle Matrix 6-2 on Saturday night after a 5-1 road decision over the Kings County Kings on Friday.

Also Friday, Mid-Isle downed the Pownal Taco Boyz Red Devils 4-2.

At the Jacques Cartier Arena in Alberton, Ethan Reilly (2-1), Chase Gaudette (2), Jack Reilly and Conor Horne scored for Western, which scored four unanswered third-period goals. James Doyle (3) and Thomas Rennie (2) had multiple-assist efforts.

Aaron McCloskey and David Sato replied for Mid-Isle.

The teams entered the intermissi­ons tied 1-1 and 2-2.

Regals 5 Kings 1

At the Eastern Kings Sportsplex in Souris, Gaudette (2-1) and Ethan Oliver (1-2) each had three points to spark the Regals’ attack. Rennie also scored twice.

Owen MacNeil was the lone King to beat Regals goaltender Aiden Williams.

Matrix 4, Red Devils 2

At the APM Centre in Cornwall, the Matrix scored twice in the first period and hung on for the win. Lucas Buch scored twice, including in the first frame, while Reese Wyand (1-1) and Sam Bailey netted the other Matrix goals. Colin Goodwin chipped in two assists.
