Coats for Kids campaign launches
Donations can be made through Saturday, Oct. 27
The Coats for Kids collection drive is now underway.
Organizers are looking for snowsuits, snow pants, mittens, gloves, scarves and boots for families.
Infant through teen sizes are all needed.
Coats for Kids is organized by Downtown Charlottetown Inc. (DCI) in partnership with the Salvation Army, the Startup Zone, which provides a drop-off depot, Sterns Laundry, who clean all the collected clothing.
Donations can be dropped off until Saturday, Oct. 27 at the new drop-off depot, the Startup Zone at 31 Queen St. (corner of Queen and Water streets), Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 27.
Salvation Army will open the ‘free shop’ on Nov. 12-13, welcoming all families to come and pick out what they like from racks of clean winter coats and snow suits.

“Island Winters are long and cold, and there are many Island children who don’t have adequate winter clothing,’’ said Dawn Alan, executive director of DCI.
“We collect hundreds of coats each year and they are always all picked up, so we know the need is there. The cold weather is quickly approaching so it’s important to get coats to families in need as soon as possible. Let’s fill up those bins in the drop off depot and make this winter a little warmer for Island children.’’
