‘Ghostly tales’
Author Julie Watson invites public to attend kickoff to her second edition on Monday in Charlottetown
Author Julie Watson will launch the second edition of “Ghostly Stories and Legends of Prince Edward Island” on Oct. 22, 7:30 p.m. at the Carriage House at 2 Kent St. in Charlottetown.
Readings from the book will be given by members of ACT, Charlottetown’s community theatre group.
The author, and her son, photographer John C. Watson, will also be on hand for the event.
In keeping with the season, Island storytellers will be recounting tales of ghosts and legendary experiences in P.E.I. at the Carriage House. The public is invited to the launch.
“It’s a treat to be celebrating the new stories we have found for this second edition of Ghosts in a location so close to where some of the sightings occurred,” said Watson. “The Bookmark will be hosting us, the actors entertaining us, and treats available. And my son will be in P.E.I. for a visit. We are happy to share our experiences as writer, photographer and collectors of ghostly tales.”
Watson is a resident of Charlottetown with numerous books to her credit. Semi-retired, she says one of her life joys is working with her son, John, on projects that take them out in the field for research and photography.
For John, living on the opposite coast can be a challenge.
“I keep a good library of P.E.I. shots that I feel might, at some point, match up with what Mom is writing. She tells me when she has an idea percolating so I start watching for opportunities to get the right images. Right now, she is focused on fairies and other mythical beings,” he laughs. “Now that is a challenge.”
John received his initial education in photography at Holland College. He began his career at The Guardian, where he began as weekend photographer at age 15. He now owns and operates Imagemaker Studio in greater Vancouver.
