Isles forward part of weekly QMJHL team honour

Daniel Hardie of the Charlottet­own Islanders was named to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team of the week. The 20-year-old forward from Brampton, Ont., tallied three goals and six points and had a plus-three plus-minus in two Islanders wins. Hardie joins Joe Veleno (Drummondvi­lle) and former Islanders forward Mitchell Balmas (Cape Breton) up front. Charle-Édouard D’Astous (Rimouski) and Wilson Forest (Cape Breton) are the defencemen, while Émile Samson of Blainville-Boisbriand earned the goaltendin­g nod.

Islanders in the thick of weekend curling events

The Charley Thomas rink from Toronto, which includes Seven Mile Bay native Adam Casey at third, lost 7-3 to the Scott MacDonald foursome of Kingston, Ont., in the final of the recent Challenge de Casino de Gatineau World Curling Tour curling event in Gatineau, Que. Thomas and company downed Mark Homan of Chelsea, Que., 7-2 in the semifinal after doubling Bruce Mouat of Scotland 4-2 in the quarter-finals. In Moncton, P.E.I.’s Suzanne Birt rink lost 7-2 in the quarter-final of the Lady Monctonian Invitation­al. Birt’s foursome, which includes third Marie Christians­on, second Meaghan Hughes and lead Michelle McQuaid, finished 3-1 in the round robin. P.E.I.’s Sarah Fullerton finished 2-2, while the Veronica Smith squad was 0-4.

Bantam Attack remains undefeated

Six different players scored as the Central Attack defeated the Mid-Isle Matrix 6-1 on Sunday to remain undefeated in the P.E.I. Major Bantam AAA Hockey League. Cam Squires (1-1), Will Morrison (11), Jonah MacDonald, Max Sentner, Tyler Worth and Kal White found the back of the net for the Attack, who sits 3-0-0. Liam Wood netted the lone goal for Mid-Isle (0-2-1). Winning goaltender was Shannon MacDonald.
