Still going strong
Fair trade Ten Thousand Villages sale back in Alberton for 15th year, Oct 26-27
As Corina Bolo read through some of the material and testimonials she received promoting the Ten Thousand Villages sale, her thoughts were carried back to a trip she and her husband, Peter, took to Vietnam last month.
While there, the Bolos visited and shopped at several fair-trade workshops. She purchased a silk needlepoint scarf and met the deaf-mute artisan who made the piece.
What she observed, she said, were “people working in a fairtrade environment where their skills and talents are fairly appreciated, and they feel appreciated.”
Pride in their work was also clearly evident, said Bolo, who is working to co-ordinate the sale in Gordon Memorial United Church Hall, Alberton, Oct. 26-27.
All proceeds from the Alberton sale support artisans partnered with Ten Thousand Villages, the oldest and largest fair-trade organization in North America. Ten Thousand Villages works with more than 120 artisan groups from more than 30 countries.
“By holding this sale, we’re giving customers in Alberton a chance to buy unique products while helping people in developing countries to meet basic needs for themselves and their family. Together, we are making a difference,” said Bolo.
The Alberton-Elmsdale UCW Ten Thousand Villages Festival sale will be open to the public on Oct. 26, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Oct. 27, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
