Junior Vipers roar back in third period

Kensington team overcomes two-goal deficit against Kent

The Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers stormed back in the third period.

The Vipers struck for four goals in the game’s final seven-plus minutes to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 6-4 victory over the Kent Koyotes of the New Brunswick Junior Hockey League.

The win improved the Vipers’ Island Junior Hockey Leaguelead­ing record to 5-1-0.

On Sunday at Credit Union Centre, the Vipers led 1-0 after one period, and trailed 3-2 at the end of two.

Ryan McKenna (1-3), Riley Smith (1-2), Parker Ronahan (11), CJ McCardle (1-1), Jesse Jay, who scored the game-winning goal with 1:59 remaining in regulation time, and Nick Trainor dented the twine for the Vipers.

Logan Vanderveld­en, Garrett Murray, Riley Gallant and Jonathan Arsenault added assists.

Simon Henman (1-1), Maxime Saulnier (1-1), Joel Despres (1-1) and Jeremy Jaillet scored for Kent.

Winning goaltender Caleb Coyle made 21 saves.

Saturday

Saturday, the Vipers earned a 6-1 win over the Eastern Maniacs.

Smith (1-3), McKenna (1-2), Gallant (1-1), Vanderveld­en, Trainor and Zack MacKay provided the goals.

Kyle McGuigan and Ronahan each chipped in two assists. Dawson Palmer, from Nathan Runnighan and Nick Steele, netted the Maniacs marker.

Cameron Visser earned the goaltendin­g win over Noah Laybolt.
