P.E.I. teams tally solid results

Pownal picks up win, Kings County earns tie in interlocki­ng games against New Brunswick midget AAA league teams

P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League teams had a good showing on home ice against the Moncton Hawks of the New Brunswick midget AAA circuit, compiling a 1-0-1 record over the weekend.

The Pownal Taco Boyz Red Devils downed Moncton 4-1 in Pownal, and the Hawks and the Kings County Kings tied 7-7 in Souris.

The next interlocki­ng meeting has Kings County in Moncton on Saturday for a 7 p.m. meeting at the Moncton Coliseum. Kings 7, Hawks 7

Offence wasn’t a problem, but neither team could upend the other. Kings forward Owen MacNeil (1-1) netted a power-play score with 30 seconds left in the game to tie things 7-7.

Jack King (2-2), Cole Mosher (1-1), Jacob Outhouse (1-1), Jake MacLaren (1-1) and Cam White had the other Kings’ goals.

Ben MacIsaac chipped in two assists.

Jaden Butland (2), Nathaniel Dryden (2), Brandon Cormier (1-1), Thomas Johnson (1-1) and Nicholas Donovan (1-1) netted the Hawks’ scores.

Dylan Gill added a pair of helpers.

Nicolas Jamieson (Kings) and Nicolas Sheehan (Hawks) patrolled the nets.

The Kings led 2-1 after the first period and 4-3 at the second intermissi­on. The teams combined to go 6-for-9 on the power play.

Red Devils 4, Hawks 1

Pownal broke out with two goals in the second period and salted away the win on home ice.

Noah Brehaut and Michael Gallant scored in the decisive frame while Larkin Kennedy and Cole McKeighan (1-1) sandwiched those goals with first and thirdframe scores, respective­ly.

Moncton’s Nathaniel Dryden potted the Hawks’ marker.

Logan Birt earned the goaltendin­g win over Lucas Burrows.

Pownal went 1-for-6 on the power play. Moncton was 0-for-8 with the extra man.

The Red Devils led 1-0 after the first stanza and 3-1 after two.
