Mando Fun wins final race of season

Watts, Dowling earn top training, driving awards in Summerside

Mando Fun won the feature on Monday evening program as the 2018 harness racing season at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

Dale Spence engineered the winning driver in the $2,200 preferred class as he sat in the pocket behind pacesetter Fast N Victorious (Adam Merner) through splits of 29.4, 1:00 and 1:28.2 before prevailing in the stretch drive in 1:57.3.

Fast N Victorious was second while Machinthes­and (Ken Murphy) rounded out the triactor.

Mando Fun is co-owned and trained by Paul Biggar of Tyne Valley for co-owner Donald Callbeck of Kensington.

David Dowling put the finishing touches on the top driver award in Summerside while also sealing the deal for trainer Earl Watts to earn top honours amongst conditione­rs.

Dowling won three races on Monday, including a 21-1 upset with Inspector Murdoch in 2:00.4 for trainer Blaine McKenna of Summerside and a 1:59.2 frontend score in the $1,900 back-up pace with Rockin Indy for Troy Murray of Clyde River.

The Warren Grove reinsman also hit the winner’s circle with Windemerei­nalright in a neck decision in 2:01.3 for trainer Watts of Hampshire.

The win gave Watts a two-win advantage in the training standings over Austin Sorrie for the 2018 season.

Positive Art won the final dash of the season in Prince County with a front-end victory in 1:59.1 for driver Merner and trainer Bing Easter of O’Leary. The card was pushed ahead a day with inclement weather forecasted for Sunday.

Live racing continues on P.E.I. at Red Shores at the Charlottet­own Driving Park Saturday and Sunday with 12:30 p.m. first race post times.
