High-level drama between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj

Rap queens finding plenty of reasons – and ways – not to get along

As a 30-year-old, hopefully full-grown woman, I left all of my petty friend fights back in 2012 with the Gangnam Style dance and peplum shirts.

It seems however, some celebrities still love the drama. Cardi B and Nicki Minaj have been feuding for years and recently the fighting has escalated. Tea has been spilt, receipts have been shown and I’m going to break it all down for you.

Although there seemed to be some beef from October 2017 to April 2018 where Cardi slammed Nicki in a few interviews regarding a song they did together, and Nicki tweeted her distaste for the new rapper, the two squashed it and were seen happily chatting at the Met Gala in May 2018.

However, faster than your avocado is ripe and then ruined, the two rap queens started bickering again. Nicki and Cardi both attended the same New York Fashion Week party on Sept. 7, 2018, and were caught on video yelling at each other. As Nicki’s body guards pulled her away, Cardi took off her shoe and threw it at Nicki.

First, violence is never the answer. Second, now you only have one shoe and have to walk all lopsided and look like a fool.

Post-fight and leaked video footage, Cardi took to Instagram to plead her case. The post is too long and incoherent to share in full, but allow me to summarize as best I can. Cardi claims Nicki has tried to tarnish her name in the industry, threatening not to work with people if they worked with Cardi, and she attempted to let all of that slide, but the line for her was when Nicki started liking tweets that spoke negatively about her husband and daughter.

I get that on a philosophical level. You can make fun of my cow lick and my inability to stay home alone without barricading the door like I’m Kevin McCallister on Home Alone. But make a joke about my dog? You’re getting a shoe to the head. Or at least a dirty look, because I don’t really like confrontation.

Over the next few days there was back and forth with Nicki saying Cardi harassed her and playing a clip where Cardi herself says nothing is off limit, including kids. No backsies! Cardi retaliates with the fact that her music has been performing better on the charts than Nicki’s.

Things quieted down between the two stars until the other day when Nicki did an interview talking about the fashion week incident and Cardi made a 13-post Instagram rant in response. Nicki replied that everyone should focus on the positive things and seems to want this all to be over – or at least, wants this to gain publicity, help with album sales and then be over.

I think we can all agree, we don’t understand rich people fighting on the Internet, and we just want them to take a page out of Drake’s book and make a diss track that we can all run to on the treadmill.

Less fighting, more workout playlists.
