What you need to know on election day

It’s decision day. Thousands of Islanders go to the polls today to vote in municipal council and mayoral races around the province.

Voters in Charlottet­own and Summerside will vote for councillor­s in all but one ward where each city had one councillor acclaimed.

Stratford saw two councillor­s acclaimed.

Across the rest of the province, more than 40 municipali­ties saw mayors and/or some of their councillor­s acclaimed.

Elections P.E.I. is running the elections in Charlottet­own, Summerside, Stratford and Cornwall while all other municipali­ties are handling their own elections.

What you need to vote

Election day polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

To be eligible to vote an elector must be a Canadian citizen who is 18 years old or older.

They must have lived in P.E.I. for at least six months before election day and are ordinarily a resident in the municipali­ty on election day.

Voters will need to bring one piece of government ID with their name and address on it or two pieces of ID or documents with their name on both and their address on at least one.

Anyone who isn’t registered to vote but is eligible can do so on election day by providing two pieces of identifica­tion.

Where to get the results

The Guardian will have updates on results throughout the night at www.theguardia­n.pe.ca.

Eastlink will also have ongoing live election coverage throughout the night starting at 7 p.m. and hosted by The Guardian’s Wayne Thibodeau with reporters providing updates from around the province.

Outgoing Charlottet­own Mayor Clifford Lee will also be in the studio as an election night analyst.

Several groups are hosting viewing parties of the election coverage, including at the Charlottet­own Firefighte­r’s Club, Sam’s Restaurant in Cornwall and at the Stratford Town Hall.

Elections P.E.I. will also have results available on its website at www.electionsp­ei.ca for Charlottet­own, Summerside, Stratford and Cornwall.

Results for all other municipali­ties will be available at www.princeedwa­rdisland.ca/ electionre­sults.
