New residency program to support local artists
The program will run in early November at Copper Bottom Brewing in Montague
Two P.E.I.-based artists will get the opportunity to explore their selected works at the beginning of November, during the inaugural Parkman Ave Residency Program at Copper Bottom Brewing in Montague.
The new initiative is a collaborative effort between the brewery and this town is small inc., P.E.I.’s artist run centre, and is being supported by Innovation P.E.I. and the P.E.I. Culture Action Plan.
The residency runs from Nov. 1-8 and Nov. 9-16 respectively, with each one concluding with an artist talk and/or workshop at 6 p.m. on Nov. 8 and 15. The community is encouraged to visit the artist space at Copper Bottom Brewing and engage with the artists as they work on their respective projects.
The project is part of this town is small’s ongoing effort to foster a sustainable contemporary art practice on P.E.I. and to encourage collaboration with the community at large.
The program will feature two Island-based artists, who were selected by a jury made up of TTIS members.
The first residency will feature Ashley Anne Clark, who holds a bachelor in fine arts from Concordia University in Montreal. Clark plans to create a series of mixed media drawings that will focus on themes of wilderness, animal life and the raw elements of nature.
The second featured artist is Jared Perry, who has been active as a multimedia artist in the Charlottetown art community for the past 10 years and holds a BFA from Mount Allison University in New Brunswick.
Perry’s more recent work involves layering of transparent materials to explore ideas of memory, the body, and the anticipation of an event.
“The Town of Montague recently expanded their public art program, so it seemed like a natural extension for us to partner with this town is small to introduce some contemporary works to the community,” said Isaac MacIntyre, business development officer at Copper Bottom Brewing. “The residency was specifically created for P.E.I.-based artists, so we hope that by doing this, programming for local artists will continue to grow and flourish.”
