Dogs euthanized

Three large dogs that twice attacked a Johnstons River woman earlier this year have been euthanized.

Marla Somersall, executive director of the P.E.I. Humane Society, told The Guardian Wednesday that the three great Pyrenees were put down.

The dogs were ordered to be euthanized after attacking a woman in February and again in July. Both attacks happened in the woman’s yard.

The owners argued the dogs were not aggressive, but a judge believed the animals had seriously injured the woman and ordered the owners to surrender the animals.

Somersall will provide an update Friday on another case involving two mixed breed, pitbull-type dogs that attacked a dog in Stratford in October. A bylaw has a list of requirements the owners must meet by Friday or the humane society will seize the dogs and they will be euthanized.

The requirements include the owner paying a licence fee for the dangerous dogs, muzzling the animals at all times when off the owner’s property and displaying at each entrance to the property and building that there are dangerous dogs on site.

The two dogs are at the centre of a case involving a 13-year-old lab-huskie mix named Louie, which was tied up at a Reeves Estates property in Stratford when attacked.

Louie had to be euthanized as a result of his injuries.
