Shoeboxes meant to bring joy to children

Islanders are reminded that the deadline is approachin­g to take part in the Operation Christmas Child Collection.

A project of the Samaritan’s Purse, an internatio­nal Christian relief and developmen­t organizati­on that has been providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world since 1970, it brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations world-wide through giftfilled shoe boxes and the message of God’s unconditio­nal love. It has had an impact on more than 157 million children in 160 countries since 1993.

Shoeboxes and brochures (with labels and instructio­ns) are available, and full boxes can be returned at the following locations:

In Charlottet­own at Proude’s Shoes (161 St. Peter’s Rd.), Kwik Kopy Printing (91 Euston St.), and the Provincial Credit Union (281 University Ave.) during their regular business hours.

Grace Baptist Church, 50 Kirkdale, Charlottet­own (for hours, call 902-314-0616).

Church of the Nazarene, 156 Fitzroy St., Summerside (for hours, call 902-954-0524).

Church of Christ, 513 Main St., Montague (for hours, call 902969-5181).

Other locations are the Christian Church, 371 Trans-Canada Highway, Cornwall, and the Alberton Baptist Church, 327 Church St. Shoeboxes and brochures are also available in Stratford at the Stratford Esso at 2 Stratford Rd., in Charlottet­own at the Price Marts, and Islandwide at Great Canadian Dollar Stores.
