The funeral for Wanda Gallant (nee Doucette), beloved wife of the late Levi Gallant, of Oyster Bed Bridge, was held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, South Rustico. The celebrant for the mass of Christian burial was Reverend Arulraj Santiago, who also proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The first reading, from Proverbs, was addressed by Betty Doucette. The second reading, from Romans, was addressed by Linda Gallant, who also led the Prayers of the Faithful. The altar servers were James Donnelly, Joseph O. and Linda Gallant. Bernadette Gallant and Della Cormier-Smith assisted Father Raj as Eucharisti­c ministers. The music was provided by the church choir with Phyllis Arsenault as choir director and Shane Arsenault as organist. The hymns were Entrance, “Be Not Afraid”; Psalm, “The Lord’s My Shepherd”; Gospel Acclamatio­n, “Celtic Alleluia”; offertory, “For Those Tears I Died”; communion, “You Are My Saviour”, sung by Phyllis Arsenault; commendati­on, “Songs of the Angels”; and recessiona­l, “How Great Thou Art”. Honorary pallbearer­s were the Cymbria Lionettes and everyone present. Pallbearer­s were Gary Gallant, Gary Younker, Jim Gallant, Kirk Axworthy, Lance Gallant and Tony Gauthier. Flower bearers were Rhonda Gallant, Susie Willoughby, Stacy Martin and Barbie Kelly. Among those in attendance were representa­tives from the Cymbria Lionettes, who formed an honor guard in the church prior to interment. The committal service was conducted by Father Raj inside the church prior to interment, due to weather. Interment took place in the church cemetery. Arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Central Queen’s Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
