Stronger legislation needed for animals

-

I recently read too many articles on people abandoning their pets in cars and leaving them to die. Also leaving their pets alone for days at a time without adequate exercise and attention which for one family on P.E.I had dire consequences. A family shouldn’t have to euthanize their beloved pet Louie because of absentee pet owners. My sincere condolences to Sharon and Samantha Clow.

No one should have to lose their family member in such a violent manner when it was preventable. Will you give them another chance if they attack a child next time. Breeds are not the problem it’s the owners. How much evidence does one need on that?

Which brings me to the other news article. A woman in Cape Breton gets house arrest for leaving her 10-month old Siberian husky to starve to death in its kennel, locked in her car in a parking garage in Halifax. How did that get missed and no one saw the dog? This wasn’t her first conviction for mistreating an animal. Someone would’ve given the dog a good home. Now she gets to stay with her parents who own animals. A stipulation is one of her parents has to be home she can’t be left alone with the animals. I doubt that will be closely monitored either.

Bottom line, we need stronger legislation to protect people and animals so this never happens again. Tamara MacDonald, Charlottetown
