’Canes hosting Rams, Blue Devils

The Holland College Hurricanes basketball teams return to home court this weekend for back-toback Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Associatio­n (ACAA) regular season games after playing their last three games on the road.

The ’Canes host the Dal AC Rams today with games taking place at noon and 2 p.m. before hosting the University of Kings College Blue Devils Sunday at 2 and 4 p.m. The women’s games are played first on both days.

The Hurricanes women’s team (1-3) enters play after a win last weekend over the Crandall Chargers and a loss at the hands of the St. Thomas Tommies. The Rams are 0-2 record while the Blue Devils are 1-2.

This will be the first meeting this season between these teams.

Lexi MacInnis is second in the conference in points per game with 16.5 while Jayla Verney (13.3) and Ashley Plaggenhoe­f (11.5) are also in the top 10. Tyleigha Nelson currently leads the conference with 10.8 rebounds per game while Kassandra Little is eighth with seven.

The Hurricanes men’s team (4-0) enters play atop the ACAA standings.

The Rams (0-2) enter the weekend as one of three winless teams in the ACAA while the Blue Devils are 2-1.

The Hurricanes offense is firing on all cylinders to begin the regular season as they lead the ACAA, averaging 111.3 points per game, led by

Hurricanes forward Jace Colley leads the conference at 27.3 points per game while Martin Campbell (18) and Jordan Holness (17.5) are also in the top 10. Roosevelt (Chicken) Whyley leads the ACAA with 12 rebounds per game with Colley (9.3) and Holness (7.3) joining him in the top 10.
