Prettyndangerous searching for redemption

Sock It Away looking to continue season of perfection Sunday at CDP

- Compiled by Nicholas Oakes for Red Shores.

The top mares racing in Prince Edward Island will convene this afternoon with the top entry looking to redeem herself at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park (CDP).

The 13-dash card gets underway at 12:30 p.m. with the $2,350 fillies and mares open pace hitting the track in Race 12.

Prettyndangerous will again be the morning-line choice after making a break in the first turn and being a non-factor in last week’s top distaff pace. David Dowling is back in the bike for trainer Bo Ford, who co-owns with Arnold Myers of Charlottetown. The eight-year-old daughter of Armbro Deuce gets Post 2 this week after her run of five straight top-three finishes was cut short by her miscue at the start last Saturday.

That left the door open for Dustlanemissmolly to control the tempo and hit the winner’s circle. The Myles Heffernan Jr.trained mare will start from Post 4 with Myles Heffernan Sr. in the bike for owner Jackie Heffernan of Summerville. Collective Wisdom was the runner-up to Dustlanemissmolly and will retain the services of rookie pilot Drew Neill from Post 6.

Race analyst Les MacIsaac is banking of trainer Ford having the breaking issue resolved with Prettyndangerous as he places her in the win position.

“Prettyndangerous took herself out of it with the early break last week and burned a ton of money in the process,” MacIsaac said. “Those things can happen to the best of them though and you can bet your bottom dollar she’ll be looking to redeem herself Saturday.”

Also in the field is Nikes Cowgirl (Marc Campbell), Julep Hanover (Wade Myers), West River Ambyr (Steven Shepherd) and Killean Finale (Ken Murphy).

Sunday

The final regularly scheduled Sunday afternoon program of the season will see one of the top three-year-olds in the history of Atlantic Canadian harness racing try to extend his streak to 18 at the CDP.

The 12-race program starts at 12:30 p.m. with the preferred pacers taking to the track in Race 11 for a $2,650 purse.

Sock It Away will leave from Post 2 in the compact field with CDP-leading driver Campbell in the bike for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. The sophomore son of Pang Shui has yet to taste defeat in 17 starts in 2018 and delivered a crushing performance last Sunday in his first start against aged company. The colt was a 1:57.1 winner over blustery conditions with a winning margin of seven lengths.

After Sunday’s card, live racing will switch to a Saturday afternoon schedule for the remainder of the race season ending in late January, with the exception of special programs on Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve.
