New Exhibit at Acadian Museum

‘Rise up Acadians, Forward for Honour! 165th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force’ opens Nov. 20

The public is invited to the opening of the exhibit entitled “Rise up Acadians, Forward for Honour! 165th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force” to be held at the Acadian Museum of Prince Edward Island, Miscouche, on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 4 p.m.

The travelling exhibit from the Musée acadien de l’Université de Moncton presents the journey of the Acadian soldiers of the First World War. Featuring the individual experiences of the young soldiers enlisted in the Acadian battalion and how their experience was not that different from the experiences of the other Canadian soldiers, it presents the Acadian soldiers in their everyday life with every emotion felt.

Patriotism, pride, joy, sorrow, boredom and despair are all represented by the faces and stories of the young men sacrificing their youth for the freedom of their motherland and for Acadia.

To mark the occasion, after the official opening of the exhibit, at 5 p.m., Gregory Kennedy, historian and professor at l’Université de Moncton, will present a talk that will explain more about some aspects of the exhibit, the history of the Acadian battalion and the experience of some 30 soldiers from Prince Edward Island using military records, Canadian censuses and archives of the Center d’études acadiennes Anselme-Chiasson.
