2018 Christmas Stars Concert for the QEH takes the stage on Sunday

The 2018 Christmas Stars Concert for the QEH will be held on Sunday, starting at 6 p.m., at the Jack Blanchard Centre, 7 Pond St., Charlottet­own.

The ninth annual fundraisin­g concert raises money for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation, with $20,000 raised so far.

Hosted by Judy MacLean, along with Bill Acorn and other special guests, the show features top performers from across the Island. Leading the way as the opening act is award-winning Island fiddler Richard Wood, accompanie­d by guitarist Gordon Belsher. Recently Wood launched his latest CD, “Unbroken”, and continues to promote his music across Canada, and the U.S. He has performed internatio­nally as well, touring the U.K. and Europe in his early career, headlining at festivals and concert halls. He has proudly entertaine­d Canada’s Armed Forces in Bosnia and twice in Afghanista­n. He has five CDs to his credit, has won three East Coast Music Awards, and was named one of the Top 100 Canadians to watch in the 21st. century by MacLean’s Magazine.

Also performing will be Lester MacPherson, a multi-talented trio from western end of the Island (Roy MacCaull, Steve Perry, Kim Tuplin), Wally Young Country with Mike McGarry and Dean Dunsford, Brendon “Spoon Man” Peters, the Bernard Family with fiddler/step dancer Vanessa Bernard and the Judy MacLean Dancers (Montigny sisters); plus the Saunders Sisters Steppers and Elvis impersonat­or Colton Matheson. There will also be a special visit from Santa.
