Christmas in Victoria set for Sunday

Special matinee concert opportunity to meet friends and neighbours

-

Christmas in Victoria with Laura Smith and Kim Dunn will be presented at the Victoria Playhouse on Sunday, Nov. 25, at 2 p.m.

For the past three years, the playhouse has celebrated the upcoming holiday season with a special matinee concert. This is an opportunity to meet friends and neighbours and enjoy great music in a beautiful venue.

Smith is a celebrated singer/ songwriter whose career has been recognized with a Gemini Award, two East Coast Music Awards, two Juno nominations and an honorary doctorate in humanities from Mount Saint Vincent University on the strength of her songwriting. Her adaptation of the Scottish song, “My Bonny” earned her the Song of the Decade Award by Live Ireland and she went on to record her version with The Chieftains on their “Fire in the Kitchen” album. Smith’s generous and powerful performances prompted the Toronto Sun to write “nobody but nobody, the length and breadth of this country sings with the same stark emotion as she does.”

Dunn is a multi-award-winning musician whose successful career spans 30 years. In addition to producing, musical directing and arranging credits, Dunn has worked with the who’s who of East Coast artists including, Rita MacNeil, Bruce Guthro, Jimmy Rankin, Heather Rankin, Matt Anderson, Meaghan Smith, Dave Gunning, George Canyon and many others.

Dunn decided to bring his own special brand of songwriting and singing to the foreground in 2010 with the release of his first solo recording project, “Take This Hammer”, and again in the spring of 2016 with his much anticipated follow up album, “Inspiration”.
