Concerts for the QEH
Treble with Girls kicks off fourth annual music series Sunday afternoon
Having raised over $15,000 for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation over the past three years, Treble with Girls is pleased to be kicking off the fourth season of its QEH Winter Fundraising Concert Series, presented by Cardigan Bearing & Steel and Cardigan Feed Services, this Sunday beginning at 2 p.m. at the Assumption Parish Centre in Stratford.
“We really have so much fun putting on this concert series for the foundation, that all the hard work that goes into it is worth it,” says Treble fiddler Sheila MacKenzie.
“It’s a win-win situation. We get to make music with our friends for terrific audiences and raise money for the hospital at the same time.”
Over the course of 10 Sunday afternoons until April 28, the concert series features some of the Island’s most talented Island musicians, door prizes from local companies and artisans, a 50/50 draw and homemade lunch served at intermission.
The guest at the first show for 2018 is singer/songwriter Taylor Johnson from Vernon River, who has made several appearances with Treble with Girls. With a repertoire ranging from sea shanties to love songs and everything in between, Johnson’s performance is marked by his light-hearted stage presence and lively accompaniment of the fiddle on both guitar and bodhran.
All ages are welcome with admission by cash only at the door and preschoolers admitted for free. The Assumption Parish Centre is located at 145 Stratford Rd., the big blue church in Stratford. The series runs every second Sunday afternoon, with the exception of December, which will only have one show with guests Bluestreak on Dec. 16.
