Bagnell stars in Timberwolv­es win over Capitals

Summerside loses to Miramichi despite throwing 52 shots at opposing net

The Miramichi Timberwolv­es scored three third period goals to defeat the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals 5-4 Thursday in Maritime Junior Hockey League action.

The host Capitals held 1-0 and 3-2 period leads but could not hold on for the victory despite peppering Stewart Bagnell with 52 shots.

James Walker scored the winner with 8:11 remaining in the third period while Matthew Briggs added an empty-net goal with 1:37 left.

Noah Massie scored a powerplay marker for the Capitals to close the gap to one with 43 seconds left, but they could not get the equalizer.

Walker, Briggs, Walker Campbell and former Charlottet­own Islanders forward Johnny Foley each had a goal and an assist for the Timberwolv­es.

Charlottet­own native Kennedy Gallant also scored in the victory while Jacob Evans, Jeremie Hebert, Eric Pelletier and Jason Gallant each added an assist.

Sullivan Sparkes, Zach Thususka, Noah Massie and Josh MacDonald scored for the Caps with an assist going to T.J. Shea, Sam Meisenheim­er, Brodie MacArthur, Isaac Wilson and Brodie MacMillan.

Daniel Thompson made 27 saves in the loss.

Summerside was 2-for-7 on the power play while Miramichi was 1-for-3.

The Timberwolv­es improved to 10-8-2-0 while the Capitals drop to 16-4-0-0.

Summerside is off until Saturday, Dec. 1, when it hosts Grand Falls at 7 p.m.
