The funeral for Mary Nantes was held on Saturday, November 17, 2018, from the Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottet­own Funeral Home to The Church of the Most Holy Redeemer where the concelebra­ted funeral mass was offered by Fr. Joseph Dovari as Chief Celebrant and Homilist. He was assisted by Fr. Charlie Cheverie. The funeral pall was placed on Mary’s casket by her children. The first and second readings were proclaimed by granddaugh­ters Melanie Arseneault and Erica Gee Smith. The prayers of intercessi­on were offered by granddaugh­ters Mary Kathleen Mitchell and Heather Nantes. The funeral mass was sung by the Holy Redeemer Funeral Choir under the direction of Tom Wilkinson. They sang the entrance hymn, Be Not Afraid, the offertory hymn, Hail Mary Gentle Woman, the communion hymn, On Eagles Wings and the recessiona­l hymn, How Great Thou Art. The meditation duet, Our Lady of Knock, was rendered by daughter Rosemary Vigeant and Claude Parent. The organist was Gary Cudmore and the harpist was Lise Morin. Following the mass Maureen Garrity shared family reflection­s in memory of their mother. The pallbearer­s were grandsons Timothy Garrity, Steven Garrity, Chris Nantes and Adam Peters as well as nephews Bill Hogan, Brian MacIntyre, Des Nantes and Ian Nantes. The honorary pallbearer­s were Sheila Hogan, Winnie-Fraser Mackay, Marilyn Driscoll, Kay Hennessey, Anita McGuigan, Gerry McKenna, Anna MacRae, Helen Larkin, Bertha Clarke, Gertie and Leith Watts. Among those attending the funeral were members of the Catholic Women’s League. The interment took place in the Roman Catholic Cemetery.
