A perfect plan
Borden-Carleton recognized for efforts to increase tourism
The Town of Borden-Carleton has been recognized for its positive efforts in creating a tourismfocused master plan.
The town was presented with the Murray Pinchuk Community Builder award earlier this month to celebrate World Town Planning Day.
The award was presented by the P.E.I. Association of Planners to recognize an extraordinary commitment to making the community a better place today and for the future.
The town’s plan, “Destination Borden-Carleton,” was presented to the public in December 2017 and completed in January 2018.
Funding for the plan’s development was sourced through the McCain Fund.
The plan’s purpose was to increase the town’s destination potential.
It’s a guiding document to set a clear path for the future of tourism, community development, design and economic vitality for the municipality.
The plan places emphasis on tangible steps and a number of recommendations to help Borden-Carleton become a welcoming gateway, community and premier destination. It also focuses on asset-based development, visitor retention, arrival celebration, program planning, way finding signage, business and waterfront development and creating a tourism brand.
Planners in 30 countries mark World Town Planning Day by presenting to community or student groups, or by sponsoring activities that highlight the importance of planning in communities.
