‘A Christmas Carol’ with an improv twist

A.C.T. (a community theatre) presents “An Improvised Christmas Carol” at The Guild in Charlottetown on Dec. 6, 13 and 20.

The bar opens at 7 p.m., doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show at 8 p.m. Tickets are available online or in person at The Guild.

A.C.T.’s latest production sees the newly formed Island Improv Company present Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol”, with a comedic twist: the audience is Dickens’ co-writer.

Marley was dead, to begin with. Everything after that? Well, that’s up to the audience.

Ebeneezer Scrooge (Noah Nazim) is still a miser who becomes a better person after meeting three ghosts, but instead of handling loans he manages a Starbucks.

Or runs a car wash. Or is an interpretive dancer. “It’s all up to the audience,” said director John Mazerolle. “Tiny Tim’s ailment might be psoriasis or a permanent cowlick. And the Ghost of Christmas Past could be the Ghost of Cows Ice Cream or Crippling Panic Attacks or Game of Thrones. It’s a fun, hilarious, and sincere blast of Christmas cheer that is different every night.”

A.C.T. (a community theatre) is a community-based, amateur theatre association on P.E.I. that fosters and encourages amateur theatre.

The show includes The Island Improv Company (Mazerolle, Nazim, Johnny Novak, Nadine Salami, Nason Scribner) and cast members Darlene Lund, Stacy Dunn, Sophie MacInnis and Sophia Ball.
