Uigg-Kinross-Grandview WI celebrates milestone
Group marks 95 years of contributing to community
The Uigg-Kinross-Grandview Women’s Institute celebrated its 95th anniversary on Nov. 25 at the Uigg Community Centre.
Committee chairperson Crissy Czank welcomed all present, including former branch members and members from convention area 14, as well as family and friends.
Congratulatory greetings and certificates, as well as regrets, were received from Premier Wade MacLauchlan and MP Lawrence MacAulay. Other greetings and certificates were personally presented to the WI by MLA Alan MacIsaac and P.E.I. WI president Doreen Wall
President Sheila MacLean also welcomed everyone and spoke about her positive relations with the WI as a relatively new resident to the area.
Recognition was given to George Doughart, author of a history of the “Federated Women’s Institute of P.E.I.”, written to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2013.
A memorial service was conducted by WI member Jane MacPhee, which paid tribute to the many who were dedicated members of the WI during the past years. Life memberships were presented by the provincial president and president elect to MacPhee and Winnie MacLeod.
A skit, “Looking Back”, was presented, which recalled the activities of this branch through the years .The readings from old minutes brought to light the many ways that work was carried out for home and country.
A social hour followed as guests enjoyed refreshments from a bygone era and viewed the display of artifacts.
