Feb. 20 as the deadline to preregiste­r for the P.E.I. Youth Chess Associatio­n P.E.I. Chess Challenge to be held Feb. 24 (storm date: March 3). This annual tournament is the qualifying event for Team P.E.I. Winners in each category will form the 12-member team to compete at the Canadian Chess Challenge in Vancouver, B.C., in May. The tournament is open to Grades 1-12, and players compete only in their own grade. The tournament is at Queen Charlotte Intermedia­te School, 150 North River Rd., Charlottet­own. Feb. 23 for a ham and scallop potato supper at the Miltonvale Hall, with the first sitting at 5 p.m. and the second sitting at 6 p.m. Take outs are available. The cost is adults, $15, children, five to 12, $8, and under 5, $3, with proceeds in aid of the Bikes for Books program. Community

Coffee club is Mondays and Fridays, 10 a.m., at the Milton Community Hall. Enjoy coffee and snacks. Admission is a donation of coin or treats.

The Seniors Active Living Centre, Bell Aliant Centre, UPEI, will be having a Brown Bag Lunch on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 11:30 a.m. Sera Cadotte will be continuing her presentati­on on her former home of Dominica, an island in the West Indies. Nicknamed the Nature Isle of the Caribbean, it was devastated by hurricane Maria in 2017.

A free Taste and Learn…African Inspired Soups class will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2-3 p.m., at Sobeys West Royalty. Join the Sobeys dietitian and celebrate Black History Month with recipes inspired by African heritage. Samples and recipes are provided.
