P.E.I. pilgrimage planned from North Rustico to Hope River

-

A walk to honour a Catholic holy day will take place next week in central P.E.I.

To celebrate the Feast Day of Our Blessed Virgin Mary’s parents, pilgrims are invited to participate in a walk followed by mass and light refreshments on Friday, July 26, at St. Anne’s Parish in Hope River.

The pilgrimage begins at Stella Maris Parish Church in North Rustico and proceeds on back roads to St Anne’s church.

There are two distances available, 9.5 kilometres or two kilometres.

The long walk, 9.5 kilometres or two hours, departs Stella Maris Parish church at 7:30 a.m. Participants are asked to park at the Stella Maris church.

The short walk, two kilometres or 30 minutes, joins the long walk on the Toronto Road at 9 a.m. Pilgrims on the short walk can meet at the Toronto Road at 9 a.m. or at the Stella Maris Parish at 8:45 a.m. to be led in their cars to the location. Parking for the short walk will be at the meet-up location.

Mass at St. Anne’s Parish will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Knights of Columbus members will lead the walks, as well as provide walking maps, drinking water and road crossing safety. They will also provide return transportation to parked cars following the mass.

Walkers are reminded to wear sensible walking footwear and to apply sun protection if needed. Rain will cancel only the walks, not the mass.
