Rose Run Quest runs into record book at Truro Raceway

Track records are made to be broken but Rose Run Quest decided the record at Truro Raceway needed to be demolished Saturday evening in the Lindsay Construction Cup Invitational.

The Nova Scotia half-miler played host to a number of top events, including the $7,500 invitational with Rose Run Quest scorching the surface in 1:52.1 to erase the former 1:52.4 overall track record set by Crombie A. Marc Campbell trains and drives Rose Run Quest for owner Blair Hansen of Charlottetown.

A close second was Do Over Hanover (Jason Hughes) while Half Cup (Mark Bradley) was only two-and-three-quarter lengths back to pace in 1:52.4.

The Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacing colts was also on the Saturday Truro Raceway card and breeder Lowell Balderston of North Wiltshire saw his offspring win both $10,020 A divisions. Red Dirt Boomer (Darren Crowe) was a winner in 1:55.4 for owner Daniel Ross of Belfast, while Red Dirt Rocknroll (David Dowling) captured his split in 1:57.1 for Lenny Myers of Stratford and Jack Quinn of Charlottetown.

Kant Katch Kaiden won the $4,600 Wilson Home Heating Series final for driver Dale Spence, trainer MacKenzie MacInnis and co-owners Kingsley Walsh of Albany and Frank Balcom of Nova Scotia.

Rocknrolls Image hit the wire first in the fastest $3,670 Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares Series leg in 1:55.1 for driver Hughes, trainer Kevin Gillis and owner David MacDonald of Belfast. The other split went to Sodwana Bay (Crowe) in 1:55.3 for trainer Barrieau and owners Wayne MacRae of Nova Scotia and Howmac Farms Ltd., of

North Wiltshire.

Sunday afternoon at Truro Raceway was the Frank and Beth Stanfield memorial stake for three-year-old pacing fillies. Woodmere Tango won her $25,205 division in 1:58 for trainer-driver Clare MacDonald but before the second division could be held heavy rainstorms moved into the area and made the rest of the card un-raceable. Since one division was already held, the $25,205 in prize money set aside for that rich Stanfield division was split evenly amongst all the entrants that were set to race.

P.E.I. SCENE

The Ironman is a new addition to Island racing for owners Allan and Wendell Gregory. The three-year-old son of Shadow Play was racing the $15,000 claiming class in Ontario for trainer Isabelle Darveau, partner of Stratford native Robert Shepherd, with miles in 1:57-1:58. His Island debut comes in Race 8 Saturday evening at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

WHO’S HOT

It is always a risk to buy a young horse from Ontario without many race lines to go off of but when an Island group bought Hysteria they were rewarded handsomely.

Owners Billy MacKinnon and Sandra Webster of Stratford along with Michael Gallant of Charlottetown purchased the two-year-old lightly raced son of Shadow Play last fall and brought him east.

Hysteria recorded a pair of second-place finishes in late 2018 before being put away for the winter. The gelding came completely to life in 2019 for his sophomore season with six wins, two seconds and a third from just 10 starts in Charlottetown. His latest outing came in an eye-popping 1:54.2 victory with Corey MacPherson driving and the ownership group has decided to cash in, as Hysteria is now listed on the Standardbred Canada horses for sale board for a cool $50,000.
