Hoop Hurricanes add Bahamian forward

The Holland College Hurricanes have added size and athleticism in the recent addition to their men’s basketball team.

Nathan Anderson, a six-footseven forward from Nassau, Bahamas, will join the perennial powerhouse ’Canes in the fall and study journalism.

“As a forward, I bring a lot of athleticism and versatility to the position,” he said, “but my major strengths are finishing inside, rebounding and playing defence, mostly in the interior.”

He will be the latest Bahamian to play for the Hurricanes. The list also includes forwards Donathan (Donnie) Moss and Roosevelt (Chicken) Whyley.

Hurricanes head coach Josh Whitty said he expects Anderson to thrive in Holland College’s up-tempo style.

“Nate brings size, athleticism and a terrific work ethic to our lineup,” he said.

Anderson won two national high school championships with the C.C. Sweeting Cobras in the Bahamas.

“I decided to enroll at Holland College because I feel it is the best place for me to grow on and off the court,” he said. “It meets both my academic and athletic needs and I am happy to be part of the Hurricanes.”

Anderson joins a recruiting class that includes Islanders Parker Roche, Logan MacCallum and Will Vidito plus New Brunswick guards Lucas Tompkins and Keighan Hamilton.

The Hurricanes are the seven-time defending Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) champs. They have won a silver and three bronze medals at nationals since 2013.
