Big day for pair

Bradley, Barrieau shine Sunday in stakes action in Summerside

Drivers Mark Bradley and Gilles Barrieau had profitable afternoons Sunday during a full stakes’ program at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

The Prince County oval played host to 13 dashes with every race a division of the Callbeck stakes for two-year-olds or the Tyndal Semple memorial for three-year-old trotters.

Mile Hill Willie and Barrieau captured the quickest $5,700 Semple memorial split, winning in 1:59.1 for owner-trainer Paul Morrison of Cardigan. The other divisions went to The last one standing( Brian MacPhee) in 2:00.2 and Dusty Lane Titan (Marc Campbell) in 2:01.4.

How mac river cruiser was an easy winner in her $7,100 Callbeck stake for two-yearold pacing fillies with a 2:02.2 open-length victory in line to Barrieau. Jackie Matheson trains the daughter of Articulato­r for owner Howmac Farms Ltd., of North Wiltshire.

The other three divisions of the Callbeck for rookie fillies were all won by driver Mark Bradley for his driving triple. Bettorthan­bobbi hit the wire first in the opening division in 1:58.2 while fellow Tom Weatherbie-trained filly Smiling Dialing was an eight-length victor in 1:59.1 in Race 5. Bradley teamed up with trainer Stephen Quinn for his third win as Watch Me Dance had a maidenbrea­king score of 2:01 in her $7,100 Callbeck division.

In rookie colt action, Tobins Rebel won his Callbeck stake for two-year-old pacers, wiring the $6,900 division for trainerdri­ver Barrieau in 1:59.2 for owner Daniel Ross of Belfast. Mr Kelly was placed first in his split with a corrected time of 1:59.2 for driver Adam Merner and trainer Melissa Rennie. Woodmere colts won the final two divisions with Woodmere Rollhario (Campbell) scoring in 2:01 for trainer Kevin MacLean and Woodmere Rollnpop delivering as a popular winner in 1:59 for trainer-driver Clare MacDonald.

MacDonald-trainee Mabou Ridge remains undefeated through three career starts after winning his $6,100 Callbeck division for two-year-old trotters in 2:06.2 for owner Arnold Rankin of Antigonish, N.S. Westview Star took his first lifetime mark in the other $6,100 division with a neck decision in 2:05.2 for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Stephen Gass.
