Time for another Road Trip

- Cindy Day is SaltWire Network’s Chief Meteorologist.

In May I visited Cape Breton and Prince Edward Island. On my travels, I met some amazing people, enjoyed delicious local foods and attended inspiring sporting events. But that was a couple of months ago and I’ve been itching to get out of the office and back on the road. Newfoundland has been on my radar for some time now and I finally got the go-ahead to pack my bags.

I’ll be landing in St. John’s Sunday afternoon.

Many of you know I’ve been forecasting the weather for more than 30 years; 20 of those were right here in Atlantic Canada. The fact that the weather in Newfoundland is unique is certainly not lost on me.

So, for that reason and others, I’m coming to visit.

I’ll be spending a week in and around St John’s. My timing is perfect since I arrive in the middle of the world-famous George Street Festival. I’m very excited about that. The morning after the end of the festival, boats take to the water for the Royal St. John’s Regatta. To me, that sounds like it could be a difficult transition for some.

On Thursday, Aug. 8, I hope to meet some of you at one of two “Grandma Says” book signings in the city. I’ve been told my little book of weather folklore is hard to find so I’ll have copies for sale, too.

The first will be at the Coles store in the Village Mall Shopping Centre from 3 until 4:30 p.m. The second will be that evening, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Chapters store on Kenmount Road.

Aside from that, I’m not sure what I’ll do… so I need your help.

I’m looking for your suggestion on what I should see, what I should eat… maybe even who I should talk to.

I look forward to hearing from you. You can drop me a line at Weathermail@ weatherbyday.ca

See you on the Rock!
