St. Andrew’s Chapel hosts gospel concert
Dino Dunsford is returning to St. Andrew’s Chapel for a Gaither-style gospel concert on Sunday, Aug. 4, at 8 p.m.
Dunsford is adding two lead and harmony vocals for the show — Rita Watts and Jolee Patkai. They will be backed up by Judy Lowe on keyboard, Heartz Godkin on bass and Brian Knox on drums.
There will also be a light lunch.
The doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. Bring a cushion.
“The gospel show will have a Gaither-style feel and a lot of singing along is encouraged,’’ Dunsford said.
Dunsford is one of the Island’s favourite entertainers, having played many styles of music for decades. He won a Music P.E.I. Award for his favourite gospel CD in 2004, a male vocalist award for P.E.I. in the 1980s and, more recently, the contributor award in 2018.
Watts grew up singing among the waves in Victoria-By-The-Sea, her childhood home, which she loved enough to write about and name her first original and award-winning song. Since then, she has written many songs and enjoyed sharing them at concerts and benefits, often joining up with friends and groups such as Dino Dunsford and the Harmonies, Patkai and Peter MacDougall, to name a few.
Watts has also recorded backup vocals on CDs featuring artists like Betty Lou Jordan, Brenda Sherry, Peter Burke, Dunsford and MacDougall.
One of her greatest honours was being one of four Islanders invited to perform at a Summerside Lobster Festival concert emceed by one of her favourite singer/songwriter’s, Valdy.
Watts currently enjoys accepting any invitation to sing “if just for the enjoyment of it’’. She has been a regular with Dino and the Harmonies for years and is well known as an excellent songwriter with a wonderful voice.
Patkai is a member of Treble with Girls and stars as Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton with the Ladies Singers of our Century. This will be her third all-gospel show.
