Grand Daddies of Rock ’n’ Roll taking the stage
The Ceilidh in the City will be celebrating Old Home Week on Wednesday, Aug. 14, when it welcomes the Grand Daddies of Rock ’n’ Roll back for their annual show.
This group of venerable Island musicians has been gracing the stages of Island dance and concert halls for the past six decades.
With initial performances starting in the late 1950s by the Grand Daddy of Rock ’n’ Roll himself, Niall MacKay, when he toured the province with the Island’s first rock ’n’ roll band the Tremtones.
The Grand Daddies of Rock ’n’ Roll is made up of lead singer MacKay, singer and guitar player Jimi Platts, sax and keyboard player Gary Cudmore and the ceilidh in the city’s Heartz Godkin on bass guitar. Together they will take the audience on a musical trip down memory lane with favourite rock ’n’ roll tunes of the 1950s and 1960s and beyond.
The group will be joining the weekly hosts of the Ceilidh in the City – Kendall Docherty, Peter Burke, Godkin, Brian Blacquiere and Brian Knox – at the Jack Blanchard Centre which is located at 7 Pond St. in Charlottetown.
The shows start at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening for general admission at 6:30 p.m. There is a canteen and bar service available as well as a weekly 50/50 draw in support of the Ceilidh Gives Back Fund which supports various Island charities and Island families needing financial assistance.
