Bountiful blueberries

Aug. 18:
Hi Cindy - thought I would share a picture with you of the awesome blueberries my husband, Gerald, and I picked at Reimer Gardens, Black Rock Road, Waterville, on Saturday, August 17, 2019. The wonderful sunshine of the past several weeks certainly made the blueberries grow and ripen. Gerald has always loved picking berries of any kind, and now having to depend on a walker for his mobility, this is the only place that he can go that he can get out of the car and voila - the blueberry bushes are right there - enabling him to pick to his heart’s content.

What a lovely photo and great letter too. I’m so pleased to hear that Gerald is able to pick blueberries at Reimer Gardens. Would you mind if I shared that photo and note with everyone. I’d like it to go in Thursday’s paper and online too of course. Cindy

Oh, my dear Cindy - that would be wonderful! You have our full permission to post the picture. Gerald said to tell you you can do anything with him that you like.
We are thoroughly enjoying the blueberries - eating them as a snack, on our cereal at breakfast, and I made a pie.
As a result of my having cancer 12 years ago, I was told by the Cancer Clinic, Halifax, to eat a lot of blueberries. Ever since, I have been doing just that. So far, the cancer has stayed in remission. But, of course, I do try and live a very healthy life.
We will certainly need more than the 43 pounds we picked on Saturday, so shall probably buy boxes of the wild blueberries to put in our freezer - so we do not run out until next August. Again, “Thank You” so much. We love your column in the Chronicle Herald.
