P.E.I. short film to screen at New York City festival

-

“Furball”, a short film produced by Charlottetown’s Periscope Pictures, is headed for the Big Apple.

A recipient of the FilmPEI’s Film 4Ward program, the film will have its American premiere at the New York Cat Film Festival on Nov. 3.

Written and directed by Jason Rogerson and produced by Harmony Wagner, “Furball” tells the story of a self-centred feline, Furball.

Faced with losing his owner’s attention, Furball takes matters into his own paws and learns that, while relationships may change, the love remains, no matter what the species.

“To be included in this worldclass festival is an honour,” said Rogerson. “Knowing that so many people will get to experience this film, produced with so much love right here on PEI, is truly exciting. It’s a golden opportunity to showcase our filmmaking talents to a much larger audience.”

Furball’s New York screening is just the beginning. As part of the Cat Film Festival’s 2020 travelling festival program, the short will travel to 55 cities across North America as part of a two-hour program celebrating felines.

Furball will entertain audiences in 25 states, from California to Massachusetts and Florida to Washington, with dozens of stops in between.

The travelling festival also comes to Canada with screenings in Saskatoon, Waterloo, Toronto, Hamilton, and Ottawa. A portion of every Cat Film Festival ticket sold is donated to a local animal welfare non-profit organization.

“Furball” stars Graham Putnam, Tamara Steele and Daniel Ohaegbu. The Visual Assistant System used on the production was donated by Onset Communications.
