Rock ‘n’ roll dance on Sept. 7

Dino Dunsford and Kim Albert join Phase II for musical night

-

On Saturday, Sept. 7, Phase II and Friends will be joined by Dino Dunsford and Kim Albert for an evening of great rock ‘n’ roll dance tunes at the Murphy Community Centre on Richmond Street in Charlottetown.

Both Dunsford and Albert have shared the stage with Phase II and Friends before but never on the same occasion.

Dunsford has been performing in a wide variety of venues since his college days. In the late 1960s, and when everyone regularly went out dancing and it was often to the sounds of Dino and the Satins. Today, after more than 50 years, he is still entertaining audiences through concerts, dances and solo appearances, as well as shows featuring his longtime musical partner, Judy Lowe.

Gerry Hickey, lead vocalist for Phase II and Friends, describes Dunsford as a “born entertainer. Just hand him a mic and sit back and enjoy. Dino has always had a great rapport with his audience, whether young, or not so young. The band looks forward to having him on our stage.”

Albert is a talented performer who, like Dunsford, knows how to capture the attention of the audience. She has a great repertoire of songs, including many dance tunes, a reflection of her years of experience playing dances and club shows. Hickey is excited to share the stage with her.

“Kim has a great voice and wonderful stage presence. She also has high energy, which makes her a good fit for this event,” he says.

Phase II has been a rock ’n’ roll dance band for almost 30 years but only became Phase II and Friends four and a half years ago, when Keila Glydon and Jeanie Campbell were added to the group.

“Keila and Jeanie sing beautifully together, as they both do excellent harmony. They also bring great energy to every performance.”

All who attend will have an opportunity to support Special Olympics through a 50/50 draw, which will be conducted by the organization.

The dance runs 8-11:30 p.m. There will be a fully licensed bar as well.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person, at the door, but may be purchased in advance for $12 per person.

Advanced tickets may be obtained by calling Hickey at 902-393-3251. He may also be reached on Facebook or Messenger.
