Gulf Shore Parkway West in Cavendish will close temporarily this fall

-

Part of the main road through the Cavendish portion of P.E.I. National Park will be closed this fall to replace an aging culvert.

Gulf Shore Parkway West will be closed to all traffic from Sept. 15 to Nov. 15. Signage will be in place advising visitors of the road closure.

Parks Canada has significant work planned for the MacKenzies Brook area beginning in September.

The Gulf Shore Parkway West closure will be from the east end of MacNeills Brook parking lot, to the west side of Orby Head. These locations provide enough space for larger vehicles to turn around safely.

MacKenzies Brook passes beneath the Gulf Shore Parkway through two culverts. These have reached the end of their lifespan and will be replaced.

Due to the Gulf Shore Parkway’s elevation in this section, the excavation site does not safely allow for single lane closures.

The road surface of Gulf Shore Parkway West at MacKenzies Brook will remain gravel from Nov. 15 to May 15, 2020. Paving will take place in spring 2020.

Safety is a top priority for Parks Canada. As such, visitors to P.E.I. National Park are advised to exercise caution, respect all on-site signage and closures and to follow instructions from on-site staff.

This work is part of the government of Canada’s $3 billion investment in Parks Canada.

Parks Canada will continue to provide updates on this project as work progresses. For more information, contact Prince Edward Island National Park at 902-672-6350 or pc.infopnipepeinpinfo.pc@canada.ca.
