VOTING FOR ANNA KEENAN

Prince Edward Island is Canada’s most vulnerable province in regard to climate change. Sea-level rise and increasing storm events are washing away the sandstone and sand that make up our Island. Because of climate change, houses, barns, and other structures will be lost to the sea. Fisheries and agriculture are vulnerable. Our safety is at risk. On P.E.I., as in the rest of Canada, climate emergency has become a ballot box issue.

As a grandmother, I am concerned about my grandchildren’s safety and future. I believe the science that says we must act immediately and decisively to solve the climate crisis that threatens us. The International Panel on Climate Change tells us that we have until 2030 to slash carbon emissions if our kids are to have a fighting chance. This election will determine the composition of government for the next four of those 11 critical years that lie ahead.

This is why I am voting for Anna Keenan, Green Party candidate for Malpeque. Not only is Anna charming and easy to work with, but with both physics and economics degrees in her back pocket, she is educated about the science of climate change. Anna is the past-president of P.E.I.’s provincial Green party and is currently a community manager for 350.org, an international climate change advocacy organization. Elizabeth May named Anna to the federal Greens shadow cabinet as the critic for Democratic Institutions.

In addition to the climate emergency, Anna speaks of properly funding health care and affordable housing in our communities, closing loopholes in our taxation system, and cleaning up Canadian politics. She will work to make MPs accountable to citizens, not corporations.

Anna’s a natural for a seat in Parliament. She will represent our interests very well and add her voice to the national conversation on climate emergency.
