Harbourfro­nt Theatre announces lineup

Harbourfro­nt Theatre in Summerside has announced its fall and spring lineup with shows set from October through April.

“We have a lot of genres being represente­d,’’ said Kieran Keller, executive director of the theatre. “Theatre, dance, ballet, musical theatre, young audience, tribute shows, local artists, national celebritie­s, circus, comedy — I could go on and on.’’

Harbourfro­nt will present Newfoundla­nd-based theatre company Artistic Fraud’s moving play “Between Breaths’’ on April 19.

For those interested in musical theatre, Fandango Musical Players Inc. returns in early December with its community production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods’’, while for the young and the young at heart, Harbourfro­nt presents “Sleeping Beauty’’ on Dec. 29.

There will also be some tribute performers hitting the stage in the months to come.

Classic rock, country, folk and contempora­ry genres are represente­d in this year’s lineup.

Local artists on stage include Rachel Beck, featuring the Atlantic String Machine; Chad Matthews in his Tribute to Stompin’ Tom; and Lennie Gallant’s The Innkeeper’s Christmas.

Harbourfro­nt will also welcome The Irish Rovers, Les McKeown’s Bay City Rollers and the Downchild Blues Band as well as seeing the latest buzz-raising artists on stage like Beck, Ryan Cook and Sunny Acrews and Jeremy Dutcher, who is a Polaris Prize and Juno awardwinni­ng artist.

Harbourfro­nt will also feature an internatio­nal award-winning circus show with Gravity & Other Myths, a hip-hop/contempora­ry dance show with Tentacle Tribe and a P.E.I. debut performanc­e of Canada’s Ballet Jörgen’s “Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet’’.
