FOOD AND MUSIC
Cowboy Musical Brunch, part of the 10th annual Evangeline Country Music Festival, is at the Acadian Musical Village, Abram-Village, Oct. 13, 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enjoy breakfast and lunch dishes with roast turkey, as well as assorted delicious homemade desserts. The cost is $15.95 plus tax, with the cost for students $8.70 pus tax. Preschoolers are free. Entertainment will be by Paula and Marie Arsenault and Robert Doucette.

DANCES
Phase II and Friends will be providing the music for a dance in support of Shelley Murphy and her sister, Dawn Murphy Dockendorff, at the Murphy Community Centre, Richmond Street, Charlottetown, on Oct. 11, 9 p.m. to midnight. All proceeds will go to help cover expenses associated with surgery in Halifax which will see Shelley donate a kidney to her sister. In addition to dancing, there will be a silent auction and a 50/50 draw.
Country dance/open mike, featuring Mary and Clifford, is at Goose River Community Centre, Oct. 12, 8-11 p.m. Admission is $8. There is a door prize and lunch.
Club 50 Dance is Oct. 12, 8:30-11:30 p.m., with music by Cathy Jackman and friends. There is lunch and a 50/50 draw. Admission is $6.

The Friends of Eptek Centre’s Lunchtime Film series continues Oct. 17 at noon with Around the World in 80 Treasures: Turkey to Germany (60 minutes) distributed by BBC Worldwide Americas Inc. Bring a sandwich; the Friends provide tea/ coffee and cookies. There is no charge, however, donations are accepted for the refreshments. Eptek Centre, a site of the P.E.I. LESSONS

Playing with Choir starts Oct. 15 at The Pourhouse in Charlottetown. The doors (and bar) open at 5:30 p.m. with a dinner special. Sessions will run 7-9 p.m. It’s an opportunity to come together in a large group to learn simple, three-part harmony for popular songs of today and past decades.

The UPEI Department of Music, in partnership with Yamaha Canada Music and the P.E.I. Symphony Orchestra, hosts a brass masterclass with Montreal Symphony Orchestra principal trumpeter Paul Merkelo.
